Consistency Management & Cooperative Discipline®

Promoting a positive climate for teaching and learning, increasing teaching time and creating a positive learning climate, CMCD® is one of the best attitude and behaviour programmes in the USA.

It compliments the UK Key Stage 3 Behaviour and Attendance Strategies and has been successfully implemented in the UK by two schools in Bracknell Forest LEA with support from the Universities of Houston and Nottingham.

Consistency Management and Cooperative Discipline® is based on 5 Themes:

1. Prevention

Students become partners in the classroom
Every classroom must have a vision and a plan
Clear procedures and routines for teachers and students
Students and teachers share the same expectations

2. Caring

Know the students’ names
    Use seating plans
    Listen to students
    Reward good behaviour
Acknowledge and support all class members

3. Cooperation

Teachers share the classroom management with students
Create classroom rules and expectations and consequences together
Teachers and students work together as partners or in cooperative group
Help each other with equipment, resources and work

4. Organisation

Student managers and planners organize the classroom
    Student work is displayed
    Tools for Learning posters
Learning objectives and tasks shared with students
    Use meaningful assessment

5. Community

Build a sense of community with students, teachers, parents and visitors to the school
Students become model citizens of the school
    Students work in teams
Good news is shared by phone calls and praise postcards
